Melon Seeds - Dae Jang Geum - Hybrid.Cucumis melo var. makuwa. NonGMO. Warm season annual. 40-50 days to maturity after fruit set. This is a traditional Korean melon variety that is crisp and remarkably sweet with a 17 brix. The skin is golden yellow with white suture. Shape is oval weighing over 1.5 lbs. Open field with vertical support growing is recommended. Strong resistance to Powdery mildew race 1 and Melon necrotic spot virus. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Or start seeds indoors 2-4 weeks earlier and transplant when weather warms. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4" tall. Space mounds 4-6' apart. On each mound plant 2-3 seeds. Row planting: See spacing info in chart. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation and ease of harvest or leave to sprawl on the ground. Harvest when the first sign of cracking appears at the base of the melon stem.
